Alvis Maynard, 81, of Pea Ridge, Arkansas passed away peacefully with his family by his side January 13, 2025 at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born January 15, 1943 in Laura, Kentucky to Jenious Maynard and Zelona Staton Maynard.
Alvis Maynard joined the United States Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. He served in Vietnam and was a Sergeant when he left the service. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He married the love of his life, Irene, on June 9, 1964, in Carlsbad, California and they were married over 60 years. They lived in California, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Texas and Arkansas. Alvis drove a truck for most of his career at Price Construction in Big Spring, Texas. He enjoyed family time, politics, baseball, the Kentucky Wildcats, the Bengals, the Buckeyes, walking and riding his bike around the neighborhood. He was a proud Christian, a member of Westside Baptist Church in Pea Ridge and loved his family more than anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Douglas VanScoy; seven siblings, Edward Maynard, Clyde Maynard, Vernal Maynard, Lauda Sartin, Molly York, Floyd Maynard and Elias Maynard.
Alvis is survived by his wife, Irene (Tercero) Maynard; five children, Carla Guinn (Delvin) of Big Spring, Texas, Lisa Woolsey (Wes) of Rogers, AR, Susan Hester (Charles) of Van Buren, AR, Alvis Maynard, Jr (Leticia) of San Antonio, TX, Karen Fredrickson (David) of Pea Ridge; one sister, Pat Dials of Columbus, Ohio 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025 at Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge with Pastor Brandon Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville National Cemetery with military honors provided.
