Obituary

Hazel Gay West Luper, a longtime resident of Garfield, passed away peacefully in her home on October 13, 2026, at the age of 75.

Hazel was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories and sharing a love that will continue to live on through the generations. Her family was the center of her world, and the love she gave them will forever remain in their hearts.

Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Luper; her son, Robert (Skip) Luper; her parents Grady Houston West and Mary Ella Jackson; several siblings, Agnes Koeppe, Peggy Berry, Jimmy West, Bobby Jackson, Larry Jackson and David Jackson.

She is survived by her son, Joey Luper, and his wife, Beverly; her grandchildren, Cheyenne Hackler and her husband, Albert; PJ Luper and his wife, Paige; and Ryleigh Luper; siblings, Maggie McDowell, Alice Jackson and Ernest Jackson. Hazel also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren who brought so much love and joy to her life: Hazel Luper, Phoenix Luper, Gabe Luper, Griffin Luper, Chevelle Luper, Agnes Luper, Arthur Luper, Maddison Hackler, Chevelle Hackler, Presley Hackler, Emiley Hackler, Nolan Hackler, and Evelyn Hackler, all of Garfield.

Though Hazel will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her, her memory will live on through the countless moments shared, the family she cherished, and the love she leaves behind. The bond she built with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren is a lasting part of her legacy.

A memorial service will be arranged at a later date to celebrate Hazel’s life. Details will be announced when arrangements have been finalized.

Hazel’s life was a gift to her family, and her love will remain with them always. She will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
