Joyce Evelyn Hughes, 89, of Garfield, and a longtime resident of the area, died August 30 in Texas.

She was born Sept. 29, 1926, at Centrahoma, Oklahoma, to Aubry Leland Andrews and Mamie Lou Shoffitt Andrews. She was a bookkeeper with Security Insurance in Rogers for ten years. She enjoyed playing the guitar and piano, singing gospel songs, gardening, dairy farming and loved animals. She was a charter member of Reddick Assembly of God Church in Garfield and is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grady Hughes, and two sisters, Dorothy Marie Andrews and Audrey Juanita Andrews.

Survivors are a niece, Denise Porter of Brownsville, Texas.

Funeral is set for 10:00a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Reddick Assembly of God Church. Burial will be at Ruddick Cemetery. No visitation.
