Nelda McKissick Hayes, age 84, of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Cross Road Retirement Community.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Houston, TX on August 10, 1935 to Wilma McDonald McKissick. She was formerly employed with the state of Louisiana and retired from the state of Arkansas. Nelda was very involved with the Nazarene church where she played the piano and organ and was the Director of children's programs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sheree Hayes. Nelda was a tremendous mother and the best wife. She was a positive lady who loved to laugh. Nelda's favorite quotes were "This too shall pass" and "Bloom where you are planted."

She is survived by her husband, Robert Alvis "Bob" or "Sonny" Hayes; children, Charlie Hayes and wife Suzanne of Asheboro, Wanda Baker and husband Anthony of Rogers, AR, Kenneth Hayes of Pea Ridge, AR, and Kathy Dawson and husband Jim of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; brother, Hugh McKissick and wife Carole of San Marcus, TX; and sister, Sharon M. Hall and husband Danny of Corsicana, TX.

Due to COVID-19, a private family service will be held. Burial will be in the Pea Ridge Cemetery.
