Rafael Marrero Martínez, de 60 años, falleció el 11 de septiembre de 2025, después de una larga y valiente lucha contra la enfermedad de Parkinson.

Nació el 1 de octubre de 1964 en Bayamón, Puerto Rico, de Reyes Marrero y Petronila Martínez. Le preceden en la muerte sus padres y su hermano, Wilfredo Marrero.

Desde joven, Rafael descubrió su pasión por la música, comenzando con la guitarra acústica. A la edad de 10 años, su talento era tan evidente que comenzó a acompañar a un grupo profesional de trovadores en Puerto Rico. Su amor por la música creció, y luego aprendió a tocar el contrabajo, que se convirtió en uno de sus compañeros de toda la vida. Fiel a sus instrumentos, tocó con alegría y dedicación hasta que el Parkinson ya no le permitió continuar. La música siempre fue su refugio, y su rostro se iluminaba cada vez que estaba presente.

Rafael fue un hombre brillante. Se graduó de la escuela secundaria a la notable edad de 16 años, se convirtió en Contador Público Certificado y comenzó a impartir cursos universitarios de contabilidad. A lo largo de su vida, también abrió y administró varios negocios exitosos, dejando un legado de inteligencia, perseverancia y trabajo arduo.

Fue un esposo, padre, hermano, abuelo y amigo devoto, conocido por su bondad, integridad y profundo amor por los demás. Tenía una sonrisa contagiosa y un sentido del humor que traía alegría a todos a su alrededor. Rafael amaba a los animales, la buena comida y, sobre todo, disfrutar del tiempo con su familia. Enfrentó el Parkinson con valentía y coraje, y en su camino se acercó más a Dios, lo que le dio fuerza y paz.

Rafael es sobrevivido por su amada esposa de 34 años, Iris Margarita Negrón; sus hijos, Wilmarie Marrero de St. Louis, Missouri, César Marrero de Pea Ridge, Miguel Marrero (Jennifer Camejo) de Orlando, Florida, Manuel Marrero de Pea Ridge, y Ana Marrero Hoyt (Lawrence Hoyt) de Bentonville; sus hermanos, David, Jesús, Pedro y Edwin Marrero de Puerto Rico; y sus cinco queridos nietos, Dayanara Schmauch, Rafael Schmauch, Alejandro Keene, Justin Keene y Luna Marrero Hoyt.

La familia Marrero encuentra consuelo al saber que Rafael ahora descansa en los brazos de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Su memoria, música, risas y ejemplo permanecerán para siempre en los corazones de todos los que lo amaron.

Habrá un servicio conmemorativo en Sisco Funeral Home el martes 16 de septiembre de 4 a 8 p.m.

Se celebrará una misa en la Iglesia Católica San Vicente de Paúl el jueves 18 de septiembre a las 10 a.m.

Rafael Marrero Martínez, age 60, passed away on September 11, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

He was born on October 1, 1964, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, to Reyes Marrero and Petronila Martínez. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wilfredo Marrero.

From a young age, Rafael discovered his passion for music, beginning with the acoustic guitar. By the age of 10, his talent was so evident that he began accompanying a professional Décima y Trova group in Puerto Rico. His love for music grew, and he went on to learn the upright bass, which became one of his lifelong companions. Faithful to his instruments, he played with joy and dedication until Parkinson's no longer allowed him to continue. Music was always his outlet, and his face would light up whenever it was present.

Rafael was a brilliant man. He graduated from high school at the remarkable age of 16, went on to become a Certified Public Accountant, and began teaching college courses in accounting. Over the course of his life, he also opened and operated several successful businesses, leaving behind a legacy of intelligence, perseverance, and hard work.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, known for his kindness, integrity, and deep love for others. He had a contagious smile and a sense of humor that brought laughter to everyone around him. Rafael loved animals, good food, and above all, he loved spending time with his family. He faced his Parkinson's with bravery and courage, and in his journey, he drew closer to God, which gave him strength and peace.

Rafael is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Iris Margarita Negrón; his children, Wilmarie Marrero of St. Louis, Missouri, César Marrero of Pea Ridge, Miguel Marrero (Jennifer Camejo) of Orlando, Florida, Manuel Marrero of Pea Ridge, and Ana Marrero Hoyt (Lawrence Hoyt) of Bentonville; siblings, David, Jesús, Pedro, and Edwin Marrero of Puerto Rico; and his five cherished grandchildren, Dayanara Schmauch, Rafael Schmauch, Alejandro Keene, Justin Keene, and Luna Marrero Hoyt.

The Marrero family finds comfort in knowing Rafael now rests in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. His memory, music, laughter, and example will remain forever in the hearts of all who loved him.

A memorial service will be held at Sisco Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 16th from 4–8 p.m.

A Mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, September 18th at 10 a.m.
